SCHOOLS AND EDUCATION

Problem:
Schools have little-to-no resources to help combat the youth obesity epidemic
.

A Solution:
Provide working raised-bed produce farms at grade schools to teach young students where food comes from, how to enjoy vegetables, and how to grow and harvest organic produce year-round. In addition, High School juniors and seniors can be offered community service opportunities by helping the grade school kids in all aspects of planting, growing, harvesting and donating produce from the farms.

Operation Fresh Start

Our program strives to educate children as to the joys of growing food, the importance of eating healthy, and the science of how plants grow. Educational programs can be catered to specific curriculum needs. GCG educators can run the program, participate in weekly or monthly maintenance and education visits, or train teachers and instructors on how to maintain a successful vegetable garden.

Our Program includes:

-A 4x25ft Raised-bed on school property with Cold Frames for winter growing

-Education for students on recognizing foods, importance of nutrition and healthy eating, and exposure to basic sustainability issues

-Education for students and teachers as to how to grow a successful garden, combat insects and critters, harvest, and what to cook with your harvest.

-As a Community Service project, GCG farmers can partner with High School participants to work with grade school kids to learn about planting, maintaining, and harvesting their produce

-Produce that is harvested by the kids can be donated to local charities and/or sold in fund raisers
